Furnace & Heating Repair in Libertyville & Lake County, IL

No Heat? We'll Get Your Furnace Running Again.

When your furnace quits in January, you need heat back today, not a conversation about replacing it. Thornton Heating has repaired furnaces
and boilers across Libertyville, Mundelein, Vernon Hills and the surrounding Lake County and North Shore communities for more than 60 years.

Our NATE-certified technicians repair every major brand, and we treat a no-heat call in freezing weather as the emergency it is. If your system is genuinely past saving, we’ll show you the numbers. But our first job is getting the furnace you already own running again.

Common Furnace Problems We Repair

Most furnace failures give you warning before the heat quits entirely. Here’s what we see most often:

Blowing cold air. Usually a failed ignitor, a tripped limit switch from a dirty filter, or a pilot light that won’t stay lit.

Won’t turn on. Often a tripped breaker, a bad thermostat, a blown transformer, or a safety switch that shut the unit down.

Short cycling. Kicking on and off every few minutes without finishing a cycle. Usually a clogged filter, a failing flame sensor, or an oversized system.

Weak or uneven heat. A dirty filter is the easy answer, but leaking ducts and a failing blower motor look the same from the register.

Banging, squealing or rattling. Squealing means a failing blower bearing, rattling means loose panels or ductwork, a loud bang on startup means delayed ignition and needs looking at fast.

Burning smell. Dust burning off is normal for the first run of the season. A persistent burning smell is not. Kill the breaker and call us.

Gas smell. Leave the house immediately, call the gas company from outside, and don’t touch light switches or your phone indoors. Then call us.

Climbing gas bills. A furnace working harder than it should is usually a cracked heat exchanger, a failing blower, or a system badly out of tune.

We repair every major brand, whether or not we installed it. If a repair truly doesn’t pencil out, we’ll show you the numbers and let you decide.
