How to Efficiently Use Your Air Conditioner This Summer
May 8th, 2020 by cverdone
With summer around the corner, you are preparing for higher energy bills. Did you know that using these HVAC tips could save you money when the bill arrives?
We want you to run your air conditioning system more in an efficient and effective manner. The following are a few tips to help make that happen.
Update Your Thermostat
Having a programmable thermostat can save you money. A programmable thermostat can turn the air conditioning down when you are away. It will turn on again when you are home and need the cooling.
Keep HVAC Maintenance Up to Date
You should have maintenance done on your HVAC system often. Make sure to do this before summer rolls around. Make sure that your air conditioner will not quit and make your home uncomfortable.
Use Your Ceiling Fans
Use ceiling fans to circulate the air and cool people in a room. This will lower your need for the air conditioner and allow you to set the thermostat higher. Turn off the fans when you leave a room, as their purpose is to cool those inside the room, not the room itself.
Move Heated Appliances Away From Thermostat
The heat from appliances, such as TV and lamps, can make your air conditioner run more than needed. Avoid added heat in the room by not using the oven; instead, use a microwave or go outside to grill. Reduce activities that create heat, like using the computer or the dishwasher.
Add a Dehumidifier
A dehumidifier will pull some of the moisture from the air, making it seem cooler. The old saying is, “it’s not the heat, but the humidity.” More moisture in the air makes it seem hotter. With a dehumidifier, you will be able to set your thermostat at a lower setting.
